Crozet has grown from a railroad town into a place where a lot of people commute to Charlottesville and fly out of three different airports — while remaining rural enough that on-demand cars are unreliable before dawn.
Pickups run from Old Trail, Western Ridge, Grayrock, Wickham Pond, and the farms and lanes off Route 250 and Jarmans Gap Road. CHO is about twenty-five minutes via 250 and Route 29; Richmond is an hour and a half; Dulles a little over two hours up 29.
Out here the rideshare map thins fast, and at four in the morning it is often empty. A booking made the day before does not depend on whether a driver happens to be awake in Charlottesville.
The return trip is where booking ahead really shows. A car landing at Richmond at eleven at night and needing a ninety-minute run out to western Albemarle is the kind of request apps quietly decline. Ours is already arranged.
